ACU-BALANCE AND YOUR EARS
What To Expect From The Experience
Choose the best ear for you to receive the Acubalance. Some people prefer to use are on the dominant hand ear. If you are on the phone a lot, or sleep on one side or the other, you might want to use the opposite ear to avoid the points being irritated by too much pressure.
The first thing your acupuncturist will do is clean your ear with alcohol or witch hazel. This will remove all of the oils that accumulate on your ear, and the press tack will stick to your ear better.
Next, your acupuncturist will use a pointed instrument to put pressure in the area of the Acubalance point. The idea is to find the most sensitive point in the area of about one millimeter. There are about 200 points on the ear, so it is important for the tack to be in the right place. The more sensitive an area on your ear, the more important that point is to treat. We use what are called the “master points” in Acubalance. They are considered “master points” because they are active on almost everyone and because they work at the very root of things to bring the body into balance.
Acupuncture in the ear is a very different sensation than body acupuncture. You will usually feel a definite prick when the tack is inserted into your ear. After the tacks are in, it is usual to feel warmth in your ear, and a bit of a throbbing. The qi coming into your ear is very powerful, so your body will react while the healing qi begins to flow. After a bit of time, you will not feel the needles, except when you want to stimulate the points. When you want to stimulate the point, all you need to do is press or rub the tacks. After stimulation, you will feel the needles again making your ear warm.
You can keep in the press tacks for 1-4 days depending on how well your ears feel. Sometimes there is one point that is sensitive and irritating. Just remove that point and leave the rest. You will get the maximum benefit from the treatments if you do not irritate the points too much. Some irritation is good, but if it is really bugging you, then take it out. When you shower or bathe. Don’t rub your ears, just pat dry and the needles should stay in with no problem. Be sure to clean your ears well after you take the needles off. Be sure to let your acupuncturist know if you are allergic to latex or any plastics. If you are pregnant, do not use ear acupuncture.
