Deep Tissue Massage

What it is:

Deep tissue is a term that is often misused in the field of massage therapy.  It is a unique category of massage therapy, employed with specific treatment goals in mind, such as the relief of muscular-skeletal disorders and complaints.  It employs a dedicated set of techniques and strokes to achieve a measure of relief. It should not be confused with “deep pressure” massage, which is one that is performed with sustained strong, occasionally intense pressure throughout an entire full-body session, which is not performed to address a specific complaint.

Swedish Massage

What it is:

Swedish massage is the modality that most people think of when they conceive of traditional massage, as it is considered the foundation for most table massage techniques.  In general, Swedish massage is the manipulation of the body's soft tissue (i.e. the skin, muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia) using the hands in a gentle, flowing massage technique. Varying degrees of pressure and stretching movements are incorporated.

Cranial Sacral Therapy

What it is:

Your central nervous system is comprised of your brain and spinal cord, housed within a membrane called the dura mater.  Inside this membrane, flows a liquid called CerebroSpinal Fluid (CSF) that is pumped by the pituitary gland, a central gland in the brain.  When this liquid flows freely, a person experiences health and vitality.  But through ongoing stress, postural distortions or traumatic experiences, physical or emotional, the flow of this vital fluid can become impinged.  What makes Cranial Sacral Therapy unique from other forms of body work is that the cranial sacral therapist pays particular attention to the innate health and wisdom within the client's body, not just pathology and symptoms.  Therapists observe the rhythms of the fluid and bones within the body and hold appreciation for its natural intelligence. Doing this has a profound effect!

HeartMind QiYoga Bodywork

What it is:

A fusion of Ohashi-style Shiatsu with Thai Yoga Massage, Qigong, Asana and Somatic awareness blend seamlessly in HeartMind Qi Yoga Bodywork. It is an Asian style of bodywork, based in Traditional Chinese Medicine, the same system of medicine that Acupuncture uses.  But as opposed to focusing on the points, HeartMind QiYoga Bodywork, connects the dots, so to speak, focusing on the meridian lines through which energy flows.  Using the study of the Five Elements, harmony in the body is achieved through balancing energetic flows.

Hot Stone Massage

Since the beginning of time as a species we have used the healing powers of our earth to heal our bodies, minds, and spirits. Hot Stone Massage returns us to this idea.

What it is:

Hot stone massage is a specialty massage where the therapist uses smooth, heated stones, either as an extension of their own hands, or by placing them on the body while they massage other parts of the body. The heat can be both deeply relaxing and help warm tight muscles so the therapist can work more deeply, more quickly.

Polarity Therapy

What it is:

Human bodies are about two-thirds water.  The water molecule has one side with a positive charge and the other side with a negative charge, like poles of a magnet.  These molecules free-float randomly in your body, with no real order.  Polarity Therapy utilizes the natural charges of both the client's and the practitioner's bodies like magnets, allowing water molecules to align themselves in a cohesive pattern, allowing energy to flow freely.

Shiatsu

What it is:

Shiatsu, literally translated, means “finger pressure” and is an Asian style of bodywork, based in Traditional Chinese Medicine. With its focus on meridian pathways (channels of energy flow throughout the body), Shiatsu bodywork distinguishes itself from other Asian modalities. Direct pressure with palms, elbows, and knees, specific point work (similar to acupuncture/trigger point therapy), joint rotations and stretches are used to clear congestion and invigorate depleted areas, thereby bringing the body back into balance.

Structural Integration

What it is:

Structural Integration is a scientifically validated body therapy. Unlike massage, Structural Integration focuses not on the muscles but on their protective layer, called fascia (also known as connective tissue). The fascia gives muscles their shape and the body its structure.  The continuing pull of gravity, the stress of daily activities and physical injuries can pull the body out of alignment. The fascia gradually shortens, tightens and adjusts to accommodate the misalignment. When the body is out of alignment it creates inefficiency and imbalance resulting in stiffness, discomfort and loss of energy. When restricted fascia is released and lengthened the body can return to its structurally optimal position and muscles can move more efficiently.  Structural Integration aligns and balances the body by lengthening and repositioning the fascia.

Thai Massage

*Anyone who has undergone a surgery, is pregnant, has blood pressure issues or has other health related issues should talk to their practitioner about what is going on so that they will receive a safe and relaxing experience.

What it is:

Thai Massage, also known as Thai Yoga Massage, is rooted in Chinese and Indian healing traditions as a holistic approach to wellness for mind, body and spirit. A systematic massage, it focuses on energy lines called sen lines that are similar to meridians in Chinese medicine and nadis in ayurvedic traditions. The underlying philosophy is that stagnant energy in the body gives rise to pain, discomfort and disease.  Thai Massage techniques help move energy to assist the systems of the body to normalize, increasing the flow of vital blood and nutrients and an overall feeling of wellbeing.
